God told Noah of His plan to destroy all living flesh because of man’s sin. Noah found favor in God’s sight and was instructed to build a huge boat wherein he and his family along with two of every animal were to be saved. Often overlooked or dismissed is Genesis 6:22, “Thus Noah did; according to all that God had commanded him, so he did.” This is one of the reasons Noah found favor with God in the first place, because he “walked with God”. This is just one way of saying that Noah did what God instructed him in his life. Noah and his family were saved “inside” the ark. The water that drown everyone else lifted up the ark to safety. Later we will learn about a woman named Rahab who hid the two spies Joshua sent to Jericho. Rahab made an agreement with the two spies that when the army of Israel came to conquer Jericho she and her family would be saved. The two spies agreed but told Rahab she and her family would only be safe if they stayed “inside” the house. If they went outside the house they would be destroyed along with all the others. Her family was saved from the army of Israel as they killed all the inhabitants of Jericho because they were in the place of safety.
We are told in Ephesians 1:3 that God has blessed us with all spiritual blessings in the heavenly places in Christ. The apostle Paul tells us in Galatians 3:26-27, “For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. 27For all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ.” The apostle Peter wrote by inspiration of the Holy Spirit in 1 Peter 3:18-22, “For Christ also died for sins once for all, the just for the unjust, so that He might bring us to God, having been put to death in the flesh, but made alive in the spirit; 19in which also He went and made proclamation to the spirits now in prison, 20who once were disobedient, when the patience of God kept waiting in the days of Noah, during the construction of the ark, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through the water. 21Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you–not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience–through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, 22who is at the right hand of God, having gone into heaven, after angels and authorities and powers had been subjected to Him.” Our place of safety today is in Jesus Christ.” Our place of safety today is in Christ and the way we get into Christ is to be baptized into Him.
